An Inclusive, Fun and Meaningful Training Session in Bangalore City, India

"Breaking barriers of caste, gender, religion is very complex work. Play for Peace is a very strong ally and friend of Educators Collective in that context, including managing conflict within communities and organizations." - Shalini Menon, Play for Peace certified trainer

On May 21 and May 22, 2016, in Bangalore India, a training was organized with special guest trainers, Sam and Sarah Storm-Tower, who are Play for Peace certified trainers from Tacoma, Washington, USA, and Swati Bhatt and Agyatmitra Shunya from India. This training was coordinated by Shalini Menon, who is also a certified Play for Peace trainer. The event was organized through her organization Educators Collective, along with the support of Quest Alliance. Educators Collective has managed the Bangalore workshop each time Play for Peace trainers visited India in 2012, 2015 and 2016. Educators Collective very specifically works for India’s low and middle income group through NGO’s, schools and organizations. Their work is aimed at breaking barriers inside classrooms, board rooms and in public spaces. Using tools that have built and shared through Play for Peace. Educators Collective fully embraces the Play for Peace spirit of ‘Everyone is invited, everybody wins’ and has built its monthly community hangouts in the format of Play for Peace clubs. Breaking barriers of caste, gender, religion is very complex work. Play for Peace is a very strong ally and friend of Educators Collective in that context, including managing conflict within communities and organizations. Trainers Swati and Agyat complex work of inclusion for marginalized communities in India is commendable. Trainer Sarah is a brilliant facilitator and her style has resonated with many participants in the workshop, especially those who work with children and schools. Sam’s energy and commitment to take Play for Peace's work to many people is a great source of inspiration. Together the atmosphere that was created by inspirational trainers and participants was inviting, safe and fun. It is also very valuable for shifting mindsets as educators and how we deal with our own prejudices while engaging with communities and learners. The training session ended on a high note. Educators Collective are determined  to support Play for Peace’s India tours and keep existing members in India engaged through online and offline efforts like meet ups. 13226999_1009134129156157_8894626330700840530_n[1] 13245255_1295733117107574_1756506124687650728_n[1]13267883_1295733150440904_271847273959924263_n[1]
