Compassion Games: A New Update!

"We are happy to know, feel and understand nature. We will continue this journey of knowing trees and nature." - Participant in Play for Peace's Earth Day activities in India

Have you been following our work with the Compassion Games? If so, then you know that PFP Clubs were heavily involved in the most recent Coopetition in celebration of Earth Week, which ended on Sunday, April 24. Just to reiterate, of the 68 teams participating in this event, 33 were PFP groups. Our involvement spanned the globe: Canada, India, Philippines, United States, Vietnam and more. The opportunity to share and promote acts of kindness and compassion has warmed both our followers and participants. Reports from our Clubs' involvement in this round of the Compassion Games are coming in. Today we thought we’d share one of the reports from a peace club in India. Starting on April 16th, the The Janta Majdoor Colony YTH Peace Club in New Delhi participated in many activities as part of their initiative to celebrate Earth Day. The Club's mentor, Farheen, researched Earth Day and climate change and shared her new knowledge with a group of ladies in the community, as well as with peace club members. Although this new topic was challenging for her, she was dedicated and open. On another day, all members cleaned a nearby park and removed all of the plastic waste. During this time, they were able to provide awareness to visitors of the park regarding the hazards of plastic and the need for plastic free spaces.
“Other people also joined in this cleaning. They made efforts to bring saplings of trees to the park, and planted them. One day we made thank you cards for the park’s gardener. We also performed advocacy activities by meeting with the Police and other municipal groups to help take charge of the park’s cleanliness and the planting of trees in areas where there are no trees.”
Participants felt that youth had lost connection with nature because there are no trees where they live. These activities gave the Play for Peace Clubs an opportunity to re-connect with the earth, to "feel the soil and the trees.” They were inspired by the opportunity to plant a tree and observe it each day. Visiting the park and having other visitors join them gave the group a strong sense of achievement. As one participant noted: "We are happy to know, feel and understand nature. We will continue this journey of knowing trees and nature." Keep reading for new updates from the Compassion Games: Serve the Earth Week as they continue to come in! We are excited to share these stories of compassion and kindness.   compassion
