Guatemala: Meet Flor Jolón, a Play for Peace Facilitator

“It is an unforgettable experience because we come together to take part in activities that promote peace, comradeship, and above all respect for each other.” – Flor Jolón

Guatemala City is a city marred by gangs and violence. Labeled as one of the most dangerous capital cities in the world, death and bloody crime scenes are part of everyday life as there is a homicide every 90 minutes. But amidst this environment, peace is being cultivated through the Play for Peace club in Palencia. One of the most active facilitators is Flor Jolón. Here is what she has to say about her experience with Play for Peace

“It is an unforgettable experience because we come together to take part in activities that promote peace, comradeship, and above all respect for each other. A while ago we had planned this big surprise activity for them. In the beginning, the children were somewhat shy and distant. We tried to know them and relate with them. We started with 5 children, then 10 joined and suddenly there were 40 of them. We started with the parachute game, moonball, rock-paper-scissors, growing stain, touching blue, and finally we ended with piñatas and a small snack donated by Wendy and Mr. Andrés.”
