#OurCommunities: Lean Bodies in Costa Mesa, California, Makes Waves with Surf Prom charity event

While traveling in India, Elisa Huang had the opportunity to work with Play for Peace as a physical activity trainer. Later she traveled to South Africa, where she volunteered with Surfshack Outreach. She quickly saw similarities between the two organizations, and believed in their potential to make a real difference in the lives of young people. So, she wanted to bring them together.

In 2017, Elisa hosted the Surf Prom to benefit Surfshack Outreach, and felt it natural to include Play for Peace this year. The event took place in February and was inspired by Elisa's birthday. The Second Annual Surf Prom charity event was held in February at Lean Bodies Gym in Costa Mesa, California, and brought together many from the CrossFit, yoga, and fitness communities, as well as volunteers from the two organizations. Guests were treated to a variety of health-based, prom-themed activities, including silent disco yoga, a photo booth, a cardio dance workout, and a raffle prize drawing. Prizes were also donated by a number of Orange County, California, businesses. Proceeds from Elisa's Surf Prom event were donated to Play for Peace's 2018 campaign, raising over $1,000.

"To make a difference, I truly believe we need to start by educating our kids," Elisa said. "Putting them in a positive setting to succeed. Providing them with opportunities and broadening their views on the world as we know it."

Thank you for your support, Elisa!
