#ShareUbuntu: I am because we are!

"The goal of the #ShareUbuntu global social experiment is to challenge behaviors of isolation, separation and loneliness by inspiring people to turn towards each other to experience simple moments of togetherness and kindness." - Play for Peace Trainer Lolo Evans

Lauren “Lolo” Evans is practically a Play For Peace veteran. Hailing from Chicago and Naperville, IL, she began as a youth facilitator back in 1999 and has served us in many wonderful ways since, as both a faciltiator and trainer. Lolo has participated in starting Play for Peace clubs all around the world, and is a part of launching a new and exciting global campaign: #ShareUbuntu! #ShareUbuntu is an inspiring social experiment. "Ubuntu" (pronounced: oo-boon-too) is a way of being, a South African term that translates to "I am because we are.” It can be also explained as a "spirit of togetherness.” By encouraging others to look to one another, and promote acts of kindness and compassion, we exercise this concept. Consider the pictures shared on this blog: groups of people that join together in a circle, sharing a moment of oneness, and recognizing each other’s humanity.  The #ShareUbuntu campaign launches this Monday, on  7/18:

"The #ShareUbuntu global social experiment launches on Nelson Mandela's Birthday 7/18 as a gift to honor his legacy of leadership in moving beyond separation and finding ways to move people into togetherness. Use the hashtag #ShareUbuntu to express ideas and images of kindness, appreciation, compassion and people to turning towards each other to share our humanity."

Although you are free to contribute in whatever way you like, Play for Peace community members are encouraged to gather a group of three or more people into a circle to play "Finger Catch,” and share the image of the group playing together on Play for Peace's social media with the hashtag #ShareUbuntu on Monday. Tell the group that Ubuntu means "I am because we are" and have them repeat it back in unison. Let's see how many #ShareUbuntu circles we can make in the world for Mandela Day! We hope that you can participate in this exciting campaign! For more pictures and inspiration, be sure to check out the #ShareUbuntu Facebook page. Add to it, and share it on your own social media. We want to join in your moments of love and compassion! We at Play for Peace look forward to seeing your contributions, and to sharing more stories of the #ShareUbuntu campaign.   [gallery ids="6647,6646,6648"]
