In 2006 the Play for Peace team in Guatemala supported by CECI, the University of San Carlos, and the Centro de Voluntariado Guatemalteco won a grant from the United Nations Volunteer Program to promote local volunteerism and the Millennium Development Goals. Over 24 social work interns were trained and Play for Peace sprouted up all over the country! The result? Hundreds of youth and thousands of children participated in Play for Peace, life-long friendships were made, and future Play for Peace Trainers were born.
These photos are from the final Practice Peace Session where over 200 from around the country came together to play and to clean up this park in San Jose Pacul, a rural indigenous area. Trainer Andres Armas still trains every social worker intern to graduate from the USAC as Play for Peace Mentors, a partnership born from this project.
