Preparing to Celebrate World Peace Day

As we prepare for this year’s celebrations, which will take place on or around the International Day of Peace on September 21, we thought we would first look back at our Clubs’ beautiful celebrations from last year.

It’s World Peace Day Wednesday, and we have shared our plans to celebrate World Peace Day globally in our Play for Peace Clubs again this year. As we prepare for this year’s celebrations, which will take place on or around the International Day of Peace on September 21, we thought we would first look back at our Clubs’ beautiful celebrations from last year. Multiple celebrations were held in Guatemala, India (Mumbai, Hyderabad, and New Delhi), and the Philippines. South Sudan’s World Peace Day Celebration took place at a primary school, where 800+ students participated in Play for Peace games. Participants walked for peace in the Lullabhai Compound in Mumbai, India; Youhanabad, Lahore, Pakistan; and Bartlett, Ilinois, USA. The Play for Peace Club in New Delhi, India, visited a women’s shelter and a youth center. Children around the world created artwork depicting symbols of peace.

Play for Peace’s co-founders lit a special peace fire that embodied the past, present, and future of the organization. We shared stories and photos from our World Peace Day Celebrations not only with our community but also with a global organization called Peace One Day. Peace One Day organizes celebrations of World Peace Day around the world. We belong to Peace One Day’s NGO Coalition, along with nonprofit organizations around the world. And don’t forget that we’ll be celebrating World Peace Day in Bartlett, IL, again this year, with our World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk. You can find more information on Crowdrise about participating individually or as a team in our event. If you would like more information about how to get involved with the World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk as a volunteer or sponsor, please contact Katie Baumann at katie@playforpeace.org. We’ll let you know more about our Clubs’ plans to celebrate World Peace Day again this year, as well as their plans to participate in the Global Unity Games, the latest round of the Compassion Games that begins on Sunday, September 11th.
