Celebrating World Peace Day in Bartlett: Why We Run and Walk

The dollars you raise in the World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk really do make a difference to children, youth, and communities around the world.

World Peace Day is just around the corner on September 21, and that means we are just a little more than a week away from our World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk on Saturday, September 24. At this time of year when we’re raising funds to support our 59 Play for Peace Clubs in Chicagoland and 20 countries around the world, we get to tell stories that remind us all why we run and walk and support Play for Peace through our Fall Run/Walk. We’ve told you about how Play for Peace games helped change the mindsets of a group of high school students in Chicago, helping them choose peace over violence after their friend had been killed in a fight. We’ve also told you about special schools we work with in Israel called Hand in Hand, where Muslim and Jewish students attend school together. We’ve also shared the story of elementary school children in Denver who had experienced violence and conflict learned to experience laughter, compassion and peace through their involvement with Play for Peace. This is why we will gather to run and walk on the beautiful grounds at the Bartlett Nature Center on September 24. The dollars you raise really do make a difference to children, youth, and communities around the world. There is still time to sign up to participate! Register today as an individual runner or walker, or invite your friends, family, coworkers or classmates to join you as a team. The first 150 people who register by Friday, September 16, will receive their choice of a Play for Peace backpack, duffle bag, or an item from the Play for Peace merchandise table at the event ($25 value). If you can’t be there but would like to support Play for Peace through the Fall Run/Walk, you can make a donation in support of one of the many teams you’ll see on our registration page. We hope to see you at the World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk on September 24!   Play for Peace in the News: Our World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk was featured in a radio interview on Chicago Connection, a radio show that airs on B96 FM in Chicago, when our Board Vice Chair Lisa Gelsomino was interviewed by host Rebecca Ortiz. And Aidan Hennessy, our nine-year-old top fundraising participant, was featured in an article that appeared in online suburban editions of the Chicago Tribune.
