South Sudan & the World Peace Day Celebration

"Peace comes when we forget our differences and embrace love and harmony; this counts on you and me.” (PFP, South Sudan Staff)

If you’ve been following our recent blogs, then you know that many of our Play For Peace Clubs around the world had a great time hosting World Peace Day Celebrations. Our friends in South Sudan were no exception! On September 21st, the PFP South Sudan staff engaged the children and teachers of the Seventy-Day Adventist Primary School, located near Juba. We invite you to enjoy the photographs taken by our team there, and the reflections shared by Eric Gisairo. On World Peace Day, Play for Peace in South Sudan is celebrated in its style. We selected one of the schools within Juba, the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School. During this important day, we started by introducing PFP to the teachers and asking permission to engage their pupils. Then we gathered the whole school from Primary 1 to Primary 8. The school has around 800+ pupils.

Even though the crowd was too big to handle, we went ahead. We started with the core values of PFP, then the importance of the games especially to our country in regards to peace, keeping in mind that South Sudan signed a peace deal in August to end 22 months of conflict that began on December 15, 2013. For the celebration, we played games with the children and their teachers. Some of the games and songs that were used during this special day were I Want, I Want, I Want, Ajugujaaa, 7-Up, Animals (elephant, giraffe, and dragon), and our song from South Sudan, Iyana Iya...... Iyana Gelegele, among other games. Above all, we celebrated without forgetting the rituals of PFP. We ended the day by playing Moon Balaton which many children enjoyed most.
